Care Guide

General Care

Vacuum weekly, more often in high traffic areas. Rotate the rug every six months to encourage even wear and reduce fading. If you need to store the rug, roll rather than fold it to prevent creasing, and keep it somewhere dry. A professional clean every few years will keep it feeling fresh.

Vacuuming

Use a vacuum cleaner with a soft brush on a turbo head. Avoid power-driven heads with stiff or hard bristles, as these can damage the pile over time. This applies across the EC Rug range, wool and synthetic fibres alike.

Cleaning spills and stains

Regular care goes a long way with your EC Rug. Vacuum it often to keep it looking its best, and if something spills, blot it straight away with a clean, dry cloth rather than rubbing it in. As this can spread the mark or affect the fibres underneath.

For everyday marks, EC Carpet & Fabric Cleaner is the simplest option. It’s a low moisture encapsulation formula that lifts dirt and stains, is safe on all EC Rugs including wool, and leaves no residue to rinse. Spot test on a hidden area first, spray directly onto the mark, gently agitate, then blot with a clean, dry cloth. Let it air dry completely and vacuum away any leftover residue after 24 hours. Available here to purchase.

Shedding

Some light shedding is normal with a new rug, particularly with wool, as a few short fibres work their way to the surface in the early weeks. It lifts away with regular vacuuming, reduces quickly, and never affects the density, performance or lifespan of the rug. Vacuum regularly from the start, and if a single long strand stands proud, trim it level rather than pulling it.

Rug backing and floor grip

For larger rugs sitting under furniture, anti-slip matting usually isn’t necessary. For runners or smaller rugs, added grip can be worthwhile. Anti-slip backing is available from a range of retailers across Australia, sold by the metre.

Fading and sunlight

Prolonged direct sunlight will fade any rug over time. Solution dyed nylon has the colour locked right into the fibre, which makes it highly resistant to fading. Whatever the fibre, rotating the rug, and softening harsh direct sun with blinds or sheers, will help keep the colour looking its best for years.
